Diverticulosis

Diverticulosis

Diverticulosis is the condition where you have diverticula in your colon. Diverticula are little out-pouchings in the wall of the colon, that form a little sac. We believe that these form over the course of your life due to relatively high pressure contractions in the colon, possibly due to lack of dietary fiber. In the Western world, approximately half of the population by the age of 50 has diverticulosis.

Most people with diverticulosis do not have any symptoms or complications from it. Some people with diverticulosis have chronic abdominal pain and/or bloating. A high fiber diet is recommended for patients who have diverticulosis.
